Conform to ASTM D16 for interpretation of terms used in this Section. 1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Applicator: Company specializing in commercial painting special coatings and finishing with five years experience. B. Conform to recommendations of the PDCA and SSPC manuals. 1.07 REGULA TORY REQUIREMENTS A. Conform to applicable code for flame/fuel/smoke rating requirements for finishes. Provide continuous ventilation and heating facilities to maintain surface and ambient temperatures above 45 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours before, during, and 48 hours after application of finishes, unless required otherwise by manufacturer's instructions. B. Do not apply exterior coatings during rain or snow, or when relative humidity is above 85 percent, or to damaged or wet surfaces unless required otherwise by manufacturer's instructions. C. Minimum Application Temperatures for Latex Paints: 45 degrees F for interiors; 50 degrees Fahrenheit for exterior; unless required otherwise by manufacturer's instructions. D. Provide lighting level of 80 ft candles measured mid-height at substrate surface. 1.12 COLORS A. Colors of paints and shades of stain shall match approved control samples. 1.13 EXTRA STOCK A. Provide one gallon in unopened, original container of each color and surface texture to Owner, lmmmum. B. Label each container with color, color mix formula, texture and room locations, in addition to the manufacturer's label. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 GENERAL A. Products for each general purpose must be of same manufacturer. R Do not use products of different manufacturers over one another, except for shop prime coats specified in other Sections. 2.02 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS - PAINT A. Materials having complete factory finish, such as electrical switchplates, lighting fixtures, finish hardware, and the like. B. All other surfaces are to be finished except as listed above or otherwise scheduled or noted. 3.03 PREPARATION A. Previously painted galvanized and primed steel surfaces: Remove rust and prepare surfaces in accordance with PCDA Manual. Feather edges of existing paint and prime surfaces with compatible primer. B. Remove electrical plates, hardware, light fixture trim, and fittings prior to preparing surfaces or finishing. C. Correct minor defects and clean surfaces which affect work of this Section. D. Shellac and seal marks which may bleed through surface fmishes. E. Gypsum Board Surfaces: Latex fill minor defects. Spot prime defects after repair. F. Galvanized Surfaces: Prepare in accordance with SSPC-SPl Solvent cleaning. G. Impervious Surfaces: Remove mildew by scrubbing with solution of tri-sodium phosphate and bleach. Rinse with clean water and allow surface to dry. H. Previously painted Masonry Surfaces: Pressure wash surface to remove loose paint prior to re- painting. I. Previously painted Concrete Masonry Surfaces and impervious surfaces: Remove mildew by scrubbing with solution of tri-sodium phosphate and bleach. Rinse with clean water and allow surface to dry. Scrape as required to remove blistered or peeling paint. Feather edges of old paint. Prepare in accordance with PCDA requirements. 1. Uncoated Steel and Iron Surfaces: Prepare in accordance with SSPC-SP3 Power tool deaning. K. Shop Primed Steel Surfaces: Prepare in accordance with SSPC-SP2 or SP3 Hand tool deaning. Feather edges to make touch-up patches inconspicuous. Clean surfaces in accordance with SSPC- SPI Solvent Cleaning. Prime bare steel surfaces. L. Metal Doors: Seal top and bottom edges with primer. M. Joint Sealants: Seal all exposed joints of dissimilar materials with Sealant as recommended by paint manufacturer and as outlined under Section 07900 - Joint Sealants. 3.04 PROTECTION A. Protect elements surrounding the work of this Section from damage or disfiguration. R Repair damage to other surfaces caused by work of this Section. C. Furnish drop cloths, shields, and protective methods to prevent spray or droppings from disfiguring other surfaces. D. Remove empty paint containers from site. C. Collect waste, doths, and material which may constitute a fire hazard, place in dosed metal containers and remove daily from site. 3.10 SCHEDULE - EXTERIOR SURFACES A. Steel - Shop Primed - All New Hollow Metal Frames, Misc. Steel, and downspouts etc: 1. One coat, Tnemec N27 "Typoxy" at 2.0-3.0 mils dry film thickness. 2. One coat aliphatic polyurethane enamel, Tnemec "Series 73" Em;lura-Shield at 3.0 to 4.0 mils dry film thickness. R Steel- Galvanized: 1. One coat, Tnemec N27 "Typoxy" at 2.0-3.0 mils dry film thickness. 2. One coat aliphatic polyurethane enamel, Tnemec "Series 73" Endura-Shield at 3.0 to 4.0 mils dry film thickness. C. Steel - Shop Primed - All New Hollow Metal Frames, Misc. Steel, and downspouts etc: 1. First Coat: Epoxy Bonding Sealer Benjamin Moore M35. 2. Second and Third Coat: Aliphatic Acrylic Urethane, Benjamin Moore CLF40/DM75, Semigloss Enamel. D. Gypsum Board Soffits: 1. One coat exterior latex primer. 2. Two coats, exterior 100 percent acrylic latex. 3. Minimum dry thickness 3.9 mils. E. Cement board Siding - Painted: 1. One coat exterior 100 percent Acrylic Latex Primer. 2. Two Coats exterior 100 percent Acrylic Latex Paint. F. Wood (Cedar, Fir) - Painted: 1. One coat exterior Zehrung "Zprimeplus". 2. Two Coats exterior 1 00 percent Acrylic Latex Paint. G. Wood (Exterior plywood) - painted: 1. Two coats "Ply-Coat" as malmfactured by Rodda. H. Wood (Transparent finish): 1. Two coats (2) satin finish marine grade varnish.
